Twenty years to prevent the orang-utan to extinction

The orang-utans will be extinct if no measures are taken to their jungle habitat in the next two decades, conservationists in Malaysia warned to protect.

    There are about 60,000 orang-utans still live in the wild in Malaysia and Indonesia, but deforestation and the expansion of palm plantations have taken their toll, reported The Star newspaper on Wednesday quoted Toshinori Tsubouchi of trust for the conservation of Borneo.

    The orang-utan habitat is fragmented and isolated plantation, which they said did not migrate into the situation and find colleagues, children produce, Tsubouchi.

    He noted that although studies had predicted that orang-utans could disappear within 50 years if their habitat continues to disappear, steps to take in the next two decades to help stall the process.

    Environmentalists call for the creation of wildlife "corridors" in Malaysia, the rest of the jungle, where orang-utans have, after decades of encroachment by loggers and palm oil companies combine prisoner.

    Approximately 80 per cent of the orang-utan in the world lives in Borneo is divided between Malaysia and Indonesia, and has found peace in the Indonesian province of Sumatra.
